Hours after the transfer period ended in Europe, Russian football fat cats Anzhi have made a tempting offer to S.L. Benfica. They are reportedly trying to sign three of the Portuguese club’s stars at a time – Axel Witsel, Rodrigo and Nicolás Gaitan.

The Makhachkala side, who are reportedly close to acquiring Real Madrid’s Lassina Diarra, are ready to pour €90 million into the deal, and have already made the respective offer, Portuguese A Bola claims. No other details have been mentioned.

Initially, Anzhi were trying to buy Axel Witsel alone for €35 million, but last year’s runners-up in Portugal refused to let the 23-year-old Belgian away.

The Dagestani side then almost tripled the sum of the offer, binding to it two more Benfica players, Rodrigo Moreno Machado and Nicolas Gaitán.

Now, the ball is on Benfica’s end. The Eagles recently lost key midfielder Javi García, who joined reigning English Premier League champions, Manchester City.

Benfica was drawn with FC Barcelona, Celtic and Spartak Moscow in the Champions League earlier this week, while Guus Hiddink’s charges have yet two concede a goal in the Europa League.
