Andrey Arshavin has had his best day in England, so far, on Saturday as the Russian striker scored his first goal for Arsenal, helping the Gunners thrash Blackburn 4-0.

Super-Shav!

Arsenal scored its first goal after just 80 seconds. Arshavin was first on the cross by Theo Walcott but his shot took a deflection from Andre Ooijer before going into the net. It was registered as an own goal by the Dutch defender, but the Premier League website reports the goal may still be credited to the Russian striker.

But Arsenal’s goal at 65 minutes could have been credited to no one else but Arshvin as this little masterpiece sent the packed Emirates stadium and coach Arsene Wenger, who puts so much trust into his £15 million signing, into a euphoria.

Arshavin got the ball near the touch line, used a clever shimmy to pass defender Danny Simpson, advanced towards the goal and put the ball in the roof of the net, beating Blackburn and England’s goal keeper Paul Robinson.

Arsenal’s third goal of the night also saw Shav involved. Emmanuel Eboue added the ball into the net after Robinson coped with Andrey’s shot from inside the box.

Eboue scored another goal from penalty to settle the final score, 4-0.

Pavlyuchenko’s club helps Arsenal

Tottenham Hottspur’s win let Arsenal catch up with Aston Villa in a run for the vital 4th spot in the English Premier League table which gives them a chance to play in the champion’s League next season.

Jermaine Jenas and Darren Bent scored two for the Spur’s to outclass Villa’s only goal by John Carew, while Arshavin’s partner in the Russian national team, Roman Pavlyuchenko, watched the game from the bench.

Both Arsenal and Villa now have 52 points but the Gunners have a better goal difference and sit fourth in the league. Tottenham is currently 13 with 32 points.

Hiddink’s fourth win in a row

On Sunday Russia’s boss, Guus Hiddink, won his fourth game in a row with Chelsea, which he coaches on a part-time basis till May.

One goal was enough for the Blues to beat the world’s richest club, Manchester City, on the home Stamford Bridge arena.

Michael Essien hit the target on the turn after a great cross from Frank Lampard’s free kick on 17 minutes.

The team of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich went level on points with Liverpool, who thrashed leaders Man United 4-1 on Saturday.

Chelsea is now just 4 points away from the first spot, which makes their dreams of claiming the title more than real.
