Over the next two months, any poker fan can take part in an online tournament which will determine eight lucky players who will sit in a final game on November 27 with none other than Andrey Arshavin himself.
After scoring Arsenal's only goal in a game lost to Manchester United on Saturday, Andrey Arshavin made his way to Moscow to promote another game played on a green surface.
RT caught up with the Russian international in Moscow and found out more about his passion for gambling, as well as what he thinks about the beginning of the new season in England.
RT: Thank you for taking time to meet with us. Gambling has been banned in Russia, including poker. We understand how you feel about poker. But what do you think about betting on football games?
Arshavin: Well, if it’s not taken to an extreme, then I think it’s OK. But on the other hand, I understand that sometimes it becomes an addiction, and in that case it’s bad.
RT: The beginning of the season in England. There have been three games already. Has the season met your expectations so far?
Arshavin: If we had not lost yesterday (to Man United), had it been at least a tie, I would have been glad.
RT: How do you feel physically after Saturday’s game?
Arshavin: I am tired, and my leg hurts.
RT: Are you all settled in London? Any issues that still need to be figured out?
Arshavin: Gradually everything is falling into place. I know and understand everything now, so it is much better than 6 months ago.
RT: Do people on the streets of London recognize you?
Arshavin: Honestly, I would like to answer no, but I think they do.
RT: What’s the difference between Russian and English fans?
Arshavin: They all like football. But in Russia it is enough to give them your autograph, whereas in England they also ask to take a picture with them.
RT: Two international games are coming up for Russia. What is the team preparing for and will you be ready to come out on the field from the first minute of the game?
Arshavin: Our team is not preparing yet, because they haven’t got together. I would like to participate in both games, but I don’t think my health will allow me to take part in the first game (against Liechtenstein). Tomorrow we will know if I will be able to play in the second game.
RT: How are you going to spend your time at home?
Arshavin: Get ready for the games, and get treatment for the injury.
