Andrey Arshavin’s transfer saga has taken yet another turn. According to his club, Zenit Saint Petersburg, a $US 20 million deal has been agreed with Arsenal, with the only sticking point coming from the player himself.

The Russian side states that the footballer wants his weekly salary to be increased from $US 110,000 dollars a week to $US 140,000.

However, one possible reason for this stems from Zenit themselves. According to the British newspaper Guardian, Zenit wanted $US 17 million for the 27-year-old and were only willing to let the Russian international go if he would make up the $US 3 million shortfall.

Arsenal had set the cut-off date as midnight on Monday for the transfer to go through, but have now extended the deadline.

Andrey Arshavin came to international prominence at Euro 2008 when his team was named team of the tournament, and during Zenit's UEFA Cup winning triumph last year.
