Champions League winners Barcelona have failed to avenge Rubin Kazan for the 2-1 defeat at Camp Nou two weeks ago as the match in Kazan ended in a scoreless draw.
The audience at the packed stadium in the capital of Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan didn’t see the most spectacular football, which only means that Kurban Berdyev’s men once again perfectly executed their coach’s game plan.
Barcelona had their biggest chance of the game on the third minute when only the post saved the Russian champions after Zlatan Ibrahimovic went on a rendezvous with Sergey Ryzhikov.
After Rubin didn’t let the visitors threaten their keeper, despite the fact the Barca dominated possession, as they do in most games.
Rubin tried to answer on the pressure of Josep Guardiola’s squad and a few of them possessed real danger, after tall striker Aleksandr Bukharov was introduced into the game in the second half.
The 0-0 score means Rubin has won 4 points in two games against Barcelona and the Russian overtake the Catalonians in the Group F standings.
After the match, Barcelona coach Josep Guardiola said he doesn’t exclude the possibility that Rubin may ultimately win the Champions League.
And it was inter Milan who took full advantage of the draw in Kazan. The Italians hopped to the top of Group F after coming from behind to take an away win against Dinamo Kiev.
The hosts went in front after Andrey Shevchenko’s shot in the middle of the second half, and looked confident throughout the whole game, but two strikes from Diego Milito and Wesley Sneijder in the last four minutes left them with no competition points on the night.
Inter now lead the standings with 6 points. Rubin and Barca have 5 points, with the Russians being ahead due to the results of face-to-face matches. And Ukrainian Dinamo Kiev are right behind with 4 points.
