CSKA Moscow's season has taken a turn for the worse with the news that striker Vagner Love is to leave the club on a loan move. The Brazilian has agreed to a one-year deal with Palmeiras.
Love recently returned to Brazil, citing family reasons. He'll now remain in his homeland until July of next year.
“I am very grateful to the CSKA administration for understanding my situation. I do have family problems that require my permanent presence in Brazil. I’ll be happy to return to CSKA next year. So I am not saying ‘good bye’, I am saying ‘see you soon’,” the striker told Sport-Express newspaper.
It's the 25-year-old's second spell with Palmeiras. He played for the Sao Paolo based side from 2002 to 2004, scoring 27 goals in 42 games.
Its believed Love's desire to be in Brazil ahead of next summer's World Cup finals was also a big factor in the move.
Love has helped CSKA clinch two Russian League titles and the UEFA Cup in his time in Russia. He has played 118 games for the Moscow club in different tournaments, putting in 61 goals.
The transfer is a serious blow for CSKA ahead of the UEFA Champions League 2009/10 campaign.
“Vagner is footballer of the highest level, a real maestro, who was not playing, but making art on the field… He was not only one of our leaders; he was the team’s soul. And now, it appears, we have lost this soul,” Deividas Shemberas, CSKA midfielder, said to Sportbox.ru.
