In the Russian Premier League, CSKA Moscow have seriously slipped up in their quest for honors this season after a draw against lowly Spartak of Nalchik.
Spartak Nalchik 1-1 CSKA
The Armymen were aiming for their fourth win in five games against Spartak Nalchik – a victory which would see them move to within a point of second-seated Spartak Moscow. Nalchik, continuing their struggle at the bottom, were eager to earn as many points as possible on their home pitch.
CSKA went about their task in blistering fashion through Milosh Krasic, who found the back of the net after just 90 seconds of play, but that was the only good news for CSKA fans.
Nalchik restored parity in the middle of the first half. Aleksandr Amisulashvili latched on deftly to a dangerous free kick.
CSKA did have the ball in the net midway through the second period, but Krasis was deemed offside.
The game ended in a draw, leaving neither team satisfied.
Saturn 2-0 Amkar
In another of the day's early kickoffs, Saturn kept in the hunt for European football next year with a facile 2-0 win over Amkar.
Benoit Angbwa showed once more why he's been the target of transfer speculation so often this season. The Cameroonian blasted home seven minutes after the break for 1-0.
Number two came just moments later. Dmitry Loskov nudged the ball into the net after fine work from former Russian international Dmitry Karyaka.
