English Premier League side, Tottenham Hotspur have begun negotiating the purchase of Russian international Alan Dzagoev from CSKA Moscow.

According to the Daily Mail, the Londoners are eager to play £25 million for Dzagoev.

It’s not the first attempt by Spurs to buy the 22-year-old talent this summer.

Their previous offer was around £12 million, but the sum doubled after the attacking midfielder’s impressive display at Euro 2012.

Russia failed to qualify from the group stages in Poland and Ukraine, but Dzagoev still managed to score three goals in as many appearances.

Tottenham are eyeing the Russian as substitute for playmaker Luca Modric, who moved to Real Madrid last week.

Despite his young age, Dzagoev has already played over a hundred games for CSKA Moscow in different tournaments including the Champions League.

He also has 24 caps and 8 goals in the jersey of his country’s national squad.

Dzagoev isn’t the only candidate Spurs are eyeing, as coach Andre Villas-Boas has expressed interest in Brazilian midfielder William, who currently wears the colors of Ukrainian football powerhouse Shakhtar Donetsk.

Well, Tottenham will need to replace Modric now. Dzagoev is a great player, but I don't see why he would go to Tottenham. What can Tottenham offer him that CSKA can't? Certainly not champions league football (I don't see Tottenham coming top four). The premier league has a bit more glamour, but Dzagoev should try and go to a bigger team.

Pure fantasy!  There's no way on god's green earth that Levy would all of a sudden go out and splash £25m on one player.  Never done it before and unlikely to start now.  16, 17, 18 perhaps, but no more than that IMO.  Besides, historically speaking, even the more impressive Russian players of the recent past have had a poor track record in our league, raising the risk levels even further in this case.  I rate Dzagoev, but I know, as do all Spurs fans who follow the goings on at the club, that this story simply does not fit with Levy's M.O.  Better journalism please.
