Russian gas major Gazprom has become an official partner of the UEFA Champions League with an agreement valid until the end of the 2015 European season.
The three-year deal will see Gazprom “cement their involvement with Europe's most prestigious club football competition through exclusive services and products," the UEFA website says.
The Gazprom brand has already become familiar in the context of the European football with the company supporting such clubs as Zenit St Petersburg and German FC Schalke 04. The deal with UEFA is seen as another step of promoting itself worldwide.
"We expect involvement with the UEFA Champions League will assist Gazprom to help build their brand awareness and identity on a global stage," David Taylor, CEO of UEFA Events SA, was quoted as saying.
"Gazprom is not only the largest gas company in the world, but is also one of those most passionate about football,” says Gazprom CEO Aleksey Miller.
“I am sure this cooperation will improve Gazprom's reputation and advance our brand awareness to a fundamentally new level on a global scale," he added.
Gazprom joins the likes of Heineken, UniCredit, Ford, MasterCard and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) as the last official partner for the 2012-2015 seasons, while Adidas remains the tournament’s official supplier.
