Jurgen Klinsmann
Jurgen Klinsmann has been fired as coach of Bayern Munich, less than a year after taking over.
It looked like the dream appointment – after winning bronze as the Bundesteam head coach, ‘The Golden Bomber’ returned to Bayern Munich to bring them more glory, but couldn’t last there a year.
Last season Bayern, led by Ottmar Hitzfeld, won the domestic league and cup, so Klinsmann had a tough act to follow.
He came under mounting pressure following a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final earlier this month.
Bayern have also been knocked out of their domestic cup competition, leaving only the Bundesliga title to play for.
Then, Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Schalke, which left the Bavarian giants three points adrift of leaders Wolfsburg with five games of the season left, proved to be the very last sraw.
Jupp Heynckes, who coached Bayern from 1987 to 1991, will take over the Munich side until the end of the season.
Ukraine to host EURO 2012 anywayIt has been confirmed that Ukraine will host the European football championship in 2012, along with Poland. But while Ukrainian football is doing well, the same can't be said about the country's economy. |
