Three games opened match day 20 of the Russian Premier League, with one ending in a goalless draw and the other two resulting in massive losses for the away sides.
Lokomotiv Moscow 4-1 Kuban Krasnodar
Lokomotiv came back from a goal down to beat Kuban in style.
But the way the first half was shaping for the railway men, who struggled to find their game following the departure of their captain, Dinyar Bilyaletdinov, to Everton.
With the start of the second half things went from bad to worse as Artur Tlisov put the visitors ahead with his header.
Conceding from a side struggling in the league infuriated Loko and the home side upped the tempo locking Kuban in its half. Meanwhile, the guests took off their main attacking force – Nigerian Emmanuel Okoduwa, who had previously assisted Tlisov.
It took them just eight minutes to equalize. Armed with his demonic speed, Renat Yanbaev made a run on the left, and all that was left for Dmitry Sychev was to meet a perfect cross.
Three minutes later, Wagner used his left foot like a hockey stick when playing a free-kick and found Peter Odemwingie’s head, putting Loko ahead. In yet another quick counterattack, Răzvan CociÅŸ found the back of the net after playing a one-two with Denis Glushakov.
Overall, Loko scored three goals in the span of four minutes, sealing the result.
And Vagner took advantage of a perfect cross by Sychev, setting the final score – 4-1.
“It's a big question for me – why we'd been playing so slowly before we conceded a goal. But afterwards I think we showed some great football and had lot of opportunities. I wish we always played the way we've done here during the last 30 minutes,” Lokomotiv’s head coach, Yury Syomin, said following the game.
Saturn Moscow region 3-0 Terek Grozny
The hosts got in front just nine minutes in – Vladimir Kuzmichev was left alone in Terek’s box and reacted perfectly to a lob from the left by Petr Nemov.
Saturn doubled their advantage a few minutes from halftime – Dmitry Kirichenko set up Aleksey Ivanov and he did the rest. And in the 66th minute, Terek lost any chance of saving the game when Kirichenko, himself, scored to seal victory for the home side.
Saturn now lies a point ahead of 8th-placed Zenit and hopes to stay in that position, though Zenit still has its game to play Sunday.
Tom Tomsk 0-0 FC Moscow
The mid-table Tom and high-flying FC Moscow cancelled each other out in Siberia.
A game, in which the only good opportunities came after spot kicks, ended in a predictable draw, 0-0. FC Moscow was probably slightly more upset as its Czech forward, Martin Jakubko, hit the post in the dying minutes of the second half.
Thus, FC Moscow lost vital points in its chase for the Champions League-looking and could lose the third place if CSKA beats Rostov on Sunday.
CSKA parted with its LoveCSKA Moscow's season has taken a turn for the worse with the news that striker Vagner Love is to leave the club on a loan move. The Brazilian has agreed to a one-year deal with Palmeiras. |
