Rubin are Russian champions for the second year in a row. A goalless draw with Zenit was enough for them to clinch the title after rivals Spartak Moscow lost 3-2 to CSKA.

Rubin started the day four points ahead of Spartak with two games to play.

Despite failing to score in Kazan, they won the title after Spartak lost to their cross-town rivals CSKA.

The red-and-whites’ keeper Dzhanaev fumbled Necid's hopeful effort at the death to see his side lose 3-2.

As a consolation, Spartak are the runners-up and have Champions League football to look forward to next season.

But it’s Rubin who are champions for the second time in their history.

Their amazing season continues for them and manager Kurban Berdyev, though, as they are also on course to for this season's Champions League knock-out stage.

Elsewhere, Lokomotiv strengthened their position for Europa League football with a 2-1 win over Dinamo.

The result also means Loko, along with CSKA and Zenit, will battle over the last remaining Champions League spot next weekend.

Meanwhile, at the bottom of the table, Kuban beat Terek, but will still join Khimki in league one next season after Spartak Nalchik won against FC Moscow.
