Dmitry Chygrynsky was officially presented as a Barcelona player after completing his move from Shakhtar Donetsk on Monday.
The Ukrainian international has signed a five-year contract with the Spanish giant’s side worth €25 million.
“I am very pleased that Barcelona maintained their interest in buying me right up until the end. I always hoped that I would move, but I could not do too much in case I offended my club. The negotiations were very difficult and at times they even reached breaking point. Finally, Barca's interest bore fruit and I am able to fulfill my dream and join them,” Dmitry Chygrynsky said to the club’s official website.
The 22-year-old appeared in front of the media and Barca fans, just three days after playing his last game for the Ukrainian side.
That farewell game was against his new club as Barcelona beat Shakhtar for the European Super Cup 1:0.
The graduate of Shakhtar’s academy, who has played 83 matches for the Donetsk side, scoring seven goals as well as 18 caps for Ukraine, is now looking forward to new challenges with the reigning European club champions.
“I would like to emphasize his personality and professionalism as well as the sense of responsibility that he has. His desire to join Barcelona was absolute. He already knows what 'més que un club' (more than a club) means, and we hope that his period of adaptation will be quick and easy,” Joan Laporta, Barcelona President, said about the team’s new signing.
