The Belgian football federation has announced that Zenit’s current manager, Dick Advocaat, had signed a two-year contract to coach the national team beginning in January 2010.
Wednesday’s signing finalized contract issues between the federation and the Dutchman.
Advocaat will take over on January 1, 2010, but until then he will stay in St. Petersburg with the Russian club Zenit.
Given the Belgians are too lowly in their World Cup 2010 campaign and have almost no chance of making the tournament in South Africa next year, Advocaat will concentrate on taking Belgium to the Euro 2012 tournament finals.
The Dutch guided the Netherlands to the 1994 World Cup quarterfinals and Euro 2004 semifinals.
