New teams will join the Continental Hockey League (KHL) in 2010/11 season says league’s President Aleksandr Medvedev, Russia’s Sport Express newspaper reports.

There’ll be no changes for the next season, but in 2010 the league is planning to expand into the European Union.

According to Medvedev, Karlovy Vary hockey club from Czech Republic is sure to join the competition, but there’ll be more rookies.

The league now consists of 24 clubs – 21 of them are Russian and three more represent from former Soviet states of Belarus, Latvia and Kazakhstan.

KHL is in its first year now, but it’s already considered to be the strongest league in European hockey. It was created as a Russian answer to the NHL.
