Hudler’s Dynamo grab first KHL win

Jiri Hudler's new side, Dynamo Moscow, picked up their first win of the KHL season after coming out on the right end of a nine goal thriller against Barys Astana.
The new KHL season may be underway, but one would hardly have noticed given the lack of fans that turned up to watch Dynamo Moscow take on Barys Astana of Kazakhstan.
The supporters had been upset after the Blue-and-Whites’ loss to city rivals CSKA on Match Day 1.
The centre of attention was the home side's Jiri Hudler, who controversially joined the Muscovites from Stanley Cup finalists the Detroit Red Wings over the summer. The Czech international says he is just happy to be skating on the ice again.
“It’s great to be on the ice and play with the guys like this. This is a great team. I am really proud to be a part of Dynamo right now. I only need to get better, and we need to win every game. We’ve got some big games coming up. And this is what I am looking for,” Jiri Hudler said.
Hudler's side got off to a good start, finding themselves in front after just three minutes, courtesy of Anton Krysanov's goal.
With a minute to go before the end of the first period, the visitors pulled level, with Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev's shot hitting the back of the Dynamo net.
However, seconds later, the home side would restore their lead, thanks to a super finish by Aleksey Kaluzhny, which gave them a 2-1 lead into the interval.
Barys Astana started the second period well. They peppered the Dynamo goaltender, Mikhail Birykov, and their persistence paid off as Glazachev tied the game at two apiece.
Once more, however, it didn't take long for Dynamo to retake the lead.
Kaluzhny grabbed his second of the game, sending a wrist shot past the Barys netminder's glove side, and Danny Markov appeared to make the game safe for Dynamo as his slap shot from distance found its way into the net, increasing the lead 4-2.
However, the game changed early into the final period. First the visitors pulled to within a goal, but seconds later, the Kazakh side were able to tie the game at 4-4, as Maksim Spiridonov brought Barys level.
The match looked as though it was heading for overtime. However, with seven minutes to go, Leonid Komarov popped up with the game winning goal on the power-play to seal victory for Dynamo, 5-4.
“It’s always tough in the beginning of the season. And it’s never an easy game, especially, in the beginning like I said. [Barys] have a very good team. But thankfully we won.” Jiri Hudler said.
The Muscovites were certainly made to work hard for their victory, and things won't get any easier for Dynamo as they face one of the main favorites for the KHL title, Salavat Yualev, next.
