The career of ex-NHL star Darius Kasparaitis is in doubt due to a knee injury, Sovetsky Sport newspaper reports.

Kasparaitis, who is under contract with KHL club SKA Saint Petersburg, has not made a single appearance for his team this season due to health problems.

The 37-year-old hockey star told the newspaper that doctors in Russia have advised him to finish his professional career, but Kaspar thinks he still has a lot to stay in the game.

The player contacted an American doctor, who assured him that he’ll bring back on his feet in no time. As such, Kasparaitis’s flight to the US is scheduled for October 15.

Darius Kasparaitis began his career at Dynamo Moscow, before moving to the NHL in 1992. The defender played for the New York Islanders, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Colorado Avalanche and the New York Rangers. In 2007, he returned to Russia, signing a contract with SKA.

Kasparaitis has dual citizenship of the US and Russia and plays for the Russian national ice hockey team. He won the Olympic Games of 1992 in Albertville, and also took silver and bronze at the 1998 and 2002 Games respectively.
