Jagr named best among the Hawks

Former NHL superstar Jaromir Jagr was named the best player of the KHL side Avangard Omsk in the 2008/09 season, the teams’ official website reports.
The Czech star shared first place in fan voting with Aleksandr Popov, as both earned 5530 votes.
Avangard’s best scorer, Jagr has 62 points (29 goals, 33 assists) in 64 games in the 2008/09 KHL season.
The Omsk team, nicknamed the Hawks, finished 16th in the regular season. But they managed to create a sensation by knocking out the champions Salavat Yukaev in the first round of the playoffs, before going down at the hands of AK Bars.
Jagr left the New York Rangers this autumn and sighed a three-year deal worth $35 million with Avangard.
He already played for the Siberian team during the NHL lock-out in the 2005 season. He scored 16 goals in the regular season that year, and added 4 in the playoffs.
Jagr scored 723 goals in the NHL and lifted the Stanley Cup twice. He has also won Olympic Gold.
