Lokomotiv Yaroslavl used the advantage of home ice to destroy Metallurg Magnitogorsk 6-1 and level the score in the best of seven series in the KHL semifinals.
After cautious hockey, which in the end led Lokomotiv to a 3-0 loss in the opener, the Yaroslavl team started the second game with a lot more aggression
And this time the tactics chosen by finish coach Kari Heikkila payed off as Loko went ahead after 5 minutes, through Dmitry Semin, and doubled the lead on 15 minutes, thanks to Sergey Konkov.
The Yaroslavl team could’ve left for a break in the best of moods but a shot from Metallurg’s Evgeny Varlamov with just 10 seconds to play and gave the hosts something to think about in the dressing room, 2-1.
And they thought well, restoring the two goal margin in the second period. Magnitka, which had one player on the bench, left Juhan Okerman completely unmarked near the goals and were immediately punished, 3-1.
The final period saw a complete demolition of Magnitogorsk as goals from Irgl, Galimov and Semin, who got his second, made it for 6-1 Lokomotiv.
The Yaroslavl team has leveled the score in the series which now travels to Magnitogorsk, with games scheduled on March 23 and 24.
