With an NHL lockout looking more and more likely, Sergey Gonchar joined fellow NHL All-Star Evgeny Malkin at Metallurg Magnitogorsk for training.
The duo returned to their Russian roots as they wait to see if they'll still be NHL players by Sunday.
The pair played for the Pittsburgh Penguins together for four years, and won the Stanley Cup in 2009. They also shared the ice in Magnitogorsk during Russia's 2004-2005 season.
“Malkin was working in the same line with forwards Vladimir Malinovsky and Anton Shenfeld, while Gonchar was training without a pair as the ninth defender,” Metallurg's press office told Komsomolskaya Paravda.
The 38 year-old Gonchar currently plays for Ottawa, while Malkin is still a Penguin – at least, for the time being.
