Agree that referres were not good. Swedens played roughly
until Kalinin punished Franzen. I am sure it happened unintentionally. Franzen had to be penaltized much stronger after he beat Malkin. The results of the game is fair. Swedens got what they should for their constant provocations against russian NKL players.
The match was decided in part by the referees as they did not penalize the russians faults properly but instead gave the swedes lots of minutes in the penalty box. A proof of this is the fact that the russian player Kalinin today received THREE matchpenalties for breaking the nose of swedish number one player, Franzen while Jemelin also today after the match got ONE matchpenalty for spearing the same player, Swedens best player, Franzen, who is a great guy by the way. While Russias best player, Malkin, of course gets a lot of attention by the swedish defence, no match penalties has been given to the swedish defence players. Next match I suggest the russian team to play more fair. Hockey is a great sport and so matches should be decided by fair play.
now, and why the Swedes stopped playing in the 3 period? Had nothing left in the tank? The Russians are known for their 3period strategy and rush. Russia used this trick many times. The real question is the Swedes- and before the Canadians -have not figured out how to counter the Russians’ 3rd period rush and forward charge.
I am not impressed. Sweden dominated Russia in the first half of the match. In the second Russia turned the tables, but were still better at acting and playing dirty tricks than playing hockey.
The last period was very good for Russia, but the Swdes had stopped playing hockey by then.
When you look at the depth on Russia's roster, most of it KHL talent, it would be surprising if they were not favored to win the Gold.. Who knows, after Sunday, perhaps Ovechkin can join the squad..
