Alex the Great has done it again. Alexander Ovechkin has won the NHL's Hart Trophy as the league's Most Valuable Player for the second year running.

The Russian international beat out compatriots Pavel Datsyuk and Evgeny Malkin to snag the prestigious award.

Ovi led the Washington Capitals to the semi-finals of the NHL playoffs this year. He was the regular season’s best scorer for the second season in a row with 56 goals, and added 11 more goals in the Stanley Cup.

The 23-year-old is also a favorite among the players association, who voted Ovechkin as the most outstanding star, earning him a second straight Lester B. Pearson award.

"I love to play hockey anywhere, but my favorite city to play the sport right now is Washington. Hopefully, next year the Stanley Cup will be ours," Aleksandr Ovechkin said.

Ovechkin is making a solid mark in history overseas, becoming only the second Russian, after Sergey Fedorov to win the league MVP, and doing so twice.

He said he'll send the trophies to Russia, where his parents will take care of them.

Earlier, he received the Kharlamov Trophy, which is awarded to the best Russian player in the NHL.
