Russia's hockey team licks wounds ahead of US clash

Russia's ice hockey team will be without two key forwards when they take on the U.S. in Friday's semi-final at the World Championships in Switzerland.
Danis Zaripov and Nikolay Zherdev have been sidelined for the remainder of the tournament.
Zherdev picked up an injury during Russia's latest win over Belarus, while Zaripov has failed to recover in time from the collarbone break he suffered early in the tournament.
Even so, defending champions Russia go into the match as slight favorites as they beat the strong American outfit 4-1 in the group stages.
Bryzgalov to get another chance
There were also concerns about the goalkeeper position, as Russia’s No. 1 netminder Ilya Bryzgalov showed a weak performance in the quarter-final against Belarus. He conceded three unnecessary goals, and was substituted by Alexander Eremenko after two periods.
But the chief national coach, Igor Zakharkin, said the Phoenix Coyotes' man will be in goal for the semifinal against the U.S., Sovetsky Sport newspaper reports.
“Bryzgalov is a strong goalkeeper. He is perfectly aware that he didn’t save his team in the quarter-final with Belarus. and now he appears in a revanchist mood. Furthermore, he’s used to the North American hockey style, especially in the NHL, so the U.S. team won’t be able to surprise him. Bryzgalov will get another chance in the semis. And this decision is justified from all points of view,” Igor Zakharkin said.
Last year's runner up Canada and Sweden form another semifinal pair on the night.
