SKA and Dynamo Moscow are on parallel courses toward KHL Western Conference finals. On Tuesday, regular season runners-up SKA were too good for Atlant, while the Muscovites upset Torpedo in Nizhny Novgorod.
SKA took a 1-0 lead in their quarter-final against Atlant in confident fashion. The St. Petersburg team won scoring four unanswered goals against their Moscow Region rivals.
Last season’s Gagarin Cup finalists were outplayed in every component of the game, but are still optimistic for their prospects in game two, which takes place on Thursday also in St. Petersburg. Last year the teams met at the same stage of the tournament. Atlant lost their opening game, but despite that managed to finish the series 4-3 in their favour.
Meanwhile, Dynamo Moscow is also 1-0 up in their best-of-seven series against Torpedo. Oleg Znarok's men won thanks to a solitary goal from Sergey Soin.
Meanwhile, the Eastern conference semi-finals got underway on Wednesday, where double Gagarin Cup Champions Ak Bars lost the series opener in Chelyabinsk against regular season winners Traktor, 3-1. In the other encounter, Metallurg Magnitogorsk upset Avangard in Omsk, 1-0.
