The KHL (Continental Hockey League) league have announced they are launching their own TV station – KHL-TV.
The League’s president Aleksandr Medvedev said that October 1 will be the day the forst broadcast begins.
The KHL, which only began last September, reached an agreement with one of Russia's leading media companies to create the unique venture.
Medvedev added that over a year was spent in making the dream come true in the quest to spread the League's brand further across Europe and Asia.
“We have signed an agreement with NTV Plus on a specialized ice hockey channel to broadcast the KHL games using their facilities. This is a very important step on the way to developing and popularizing ice hockey. And we're very glad we finally managed to make this idea come true,” Aleksandr Medvedev said.
The new channel will show around 400 matches from the 2009/10 KHL season, including live coverage, match reviews and analytical programs.
