Fernando Alonso of Ferrari will have a chance to increase his Formula One lead as he will start the British Grand Prix from pole position.

The reigning Silverstone champion mastered the rain-soaked track in a disrupted qualifying session Saturday claimed the first pole for Ferrari since 2010.

The Spaniard leads the championship by 20 points from Red Bull driver Mark Webber, who qualified in second place.

Seven-time F1 champion Michael Schumacher will be third on the starting grid on Sunday two weeks after reaching his first podium since returning from retirement two years ago.

Qualifying was interrupted for more than 90 minutes after the circuit was deluged in water for a second straight day.
