Defending Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has won his first race of the season crossing the checkered flag at the Hungarian Grand Prix.
He took the lead in Budapest after pole holder Fernando Alonso retired from the race when the wheel came loose on the Spaniard’s Renault.
After that the British driver calmly controlled his revitalized McLaren to finish ten seconds ahead of Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.
Red Bull’s Mark Webber came in third, while season leader Jenson Button was only seventh. The Brawn pilot has failed to win in the last three Grand Prixs, and his team mate Rubins Barrichello earned just one point finishing tenth.
Despite poor results in Hungary, Button continues to enjoy a convincing lead in the drivers’ championship. The British pilot has 70 points, which is 19.5 more than second-placed Mark Webber. The other Red Bull man Sebastian Vettel is third with 47.
The win in Hungary puts Lewis Hamilton in eighth place in the table with 19 points.
Red Bull has closed the gap on Brawn in the teams’ competition, with 15.5 points now separating them.
