The Kremlin walls rumble to the sound of Formula 1, as three of the sport's cars took to the Russian capital’s streets. They were part of 'Bavaria Moscow City Racing', which kicked off on the weekend.

McLaren, Williams and Red Bull have come to Moscow to promote the sport. Russian truck-maker – and Dakar Rally winners – KAMAZ were also there.

And McLaren pilot Heikki Kovalainen thinks Moscow could not only host promo events like this, but one day stage a Grand Prix.

The Finn believes the city has already got everything required for it to appear on the Formula 1 calendar. All it takes to land a Grand Prix.

“I think there are great facilities here. It’s a big city. Obviously, for the streets, you’ll probably need to look at the run of areas to create a safe street circuit. But it’s a normal process that has to be done. And I don’t see any other reasons why it won’t be possible to host a grand Prix here,” he said.

Kovalainen said what he’s seen in Moscow proves that there’s “a lot of excitement and enthusiasm from the local fans and the local media” towards the sport.

And Adam Parr from Williams fully agrees with the McLaren driver.

“I think the future will be fantastic. There’s a growing interest in the sport. Motor sport is an obvious area for Russia to develop, because you love cars and it’s a great country of great sporting heroes, and I’m sure sooner or later we’ll see a Formula 1 race here. But more importantly than the race is, I hope that we’ll see young Russian drivers developing and coming into Formula 1 in the future,” Adam Parr, CEO of Williams F1 Team , said.
