Russian GP2 pilot Vitaly Petrov may appear in Formula One as soon as in 2010, as he’s rumored to be joining the newly-promoted Campos Meta stable, grandprix.com reports.

The reputable British title writes that the Russian’s chances of making it to 'the queen of motor sport' are extremely high.

“The 24-year-old Russian seems to have plenty of money behind him, although the identity of his sponsors is not really clear. He is rumored to have as much as $15 million to take to a Formula 1 team and, of course, the F1 world is keen to get more Russian involvement in the sport, as it is a country which has potential for many of the F1 sponsors,” according to the magazine.

Meanwhile, Petrov’s agent Oksana Kosachenko told the Sport-Express newspaper that it’s too early to say something concrete.

”Of course, we are thinking about Vitaly’s career in Formula One and are in talks now. But it’s too early for us to say anything concrete,” she said before adding: “Vitaly can’t comment on the issue until the end of the GP2 season.”

The formula one debutant owner, Adrian Campos, was supposed to name his drivers during the Valencia weekend but failed to do so.

Petrov is currently racing in GP2 with yet another Campos team, which is now owned by Alejandro Agag and renamed Addax.

In case Petrov makes it to Campos Meta, current McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa will become his most probable teammate.
