The employees of Brawn GP weren’t given time to celebrate a brilliant one-two victory at the Australian Grand Prix as the F1 team announced their plans to fire 270 of their 700 workers, AP news agency reports.

The Brawn GP’s budget for the season is around $300 million but they still have to reduce the staff.

The team was formed on 6 March 2009, when Ross Brawn, the ex-team boss of the Honda Racing F1 Team, bought it from Honda as the Japanese car producers decided to withdraw from sports due to the world financial crisis.

The rookies had the best possible debut as their pilots, Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, finished first and second respectively at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday.

Brawn are now considered the favorites to claim both the drivers and the constructors cup.
