Belarusian Victoria Azarenka has claimed the biggest victory of her tennis career by thrashing Serena Williams at the final of the Sony Ericsson Open Key Biscayne, Florida.

he players last faced each other at the Australian Open when Azarenka retired due to illness.

This time it was Williams who would suffer, as the American, with her left thigh heavily strapped, struggled to move freely round the court.

Azarenka won four straight games to close out the first set 6-3.

The 19 year-old Belarusian continued to take advantage, forcing the world number one all over the court to win the second set 6-1.

Victory has given Azarenka her third title of the year, while at the same time moving her up to eighth place in the world rankings.

“I was so happy. It was the biggest win of my career so far. I was just so happy to finish that match, because I was getting a little bit nervous in the end,” Victoria Azarenka said to the tournament’s official website.
