With the fourth and final grand slam of the tennis season just around the corner Elena Dementieva has timed hitting top form to perfection.
On Sunday night the Russian eased to a 6-4, 6-3 win over compatriot Maria Sharapova in the Rogers cup final in Toronto.
The victory shortened the odds on the Olympic champion going one better than in 2004 at Flushing Meadows when she finished runner up to yet another Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.
Her performance in Canada on Sunday confirmed her place a tournament favourite as she crushed an error-prone Sharapova in just over an hour earning her 14th career crown.
Meanwhile, Roger Federer's superb year continues.
The Swiss maestro took his fourth title of the season in Cincinnati with a straight sets win over Novak Djokovic. The World Number 1 dominated the Masters decider from the outset to seal a 6-1, 7-5 win.
