World No. 1 Dinara Safina has claimed her third tournament of the season, taking the better of Sara Errani in the Slovenia Open final.
The win didn’t come easy for the Russian. Both players looked nervous, as the match saw service lost 17 times.
Defending champ Errani took the first set, winning it on tie-break 7-5.
“The match was a little bit of drama… because I did not do the things I had to do,” Dinara Safina said to the tournament’s official website.
Safina came back strong in the second, storming the Italian 6-1. In the third set Dinara managed to retain her serve at 5-5 and then cruised to victory, breaking Errani for the ninth time on the night.
The 23-year-old Russian said that “I fought till the end, because I really wanted this match.”
The win in Slovenia makes it the 12th WTA title in her career.
