Former tennis world number one Serena Williams is back to winning ways. On Sunday night the American captured her first title since returning from a long injury lay-off.

Serena beat Marion Bartoli in straight sets to win the Bank of the West Classic in California.

Williams had to overcome two break points in the first set to win that 7-5, and then stormed through the second six games to one.

The victory was even sweeter for Williams, who lost to Bartoli in the fourth round of Wimbledon this year.

The American said afterwards there is more to come.

"I feel really good. I'm happy to walk away with the win having not won a tournament in a while, so it's really good,” Serena noted, adding: “But I'm not finished, I don't feel that by any means am I finished. I feel like, 'okay, let me just dust my shoulders off and keep the pushing."
