Serena Williams has claimed her fifth Wimbledon crown and 14th major championship overall, after edging Agnieszka Radwanska in three sets.
The American, who last won on the English courts in 2012, breezed through the first set 6-1, but the match was halted after that due to rain. The delay played in the Pole's favor, as she took the second 7-5.
Serena came back strong in the decider to win it, 6-2, along with the title. The 30-year-old smashed a total of 17 aces in the process.
However, Radwanska, who felt under the weather ahead of the final, is the first Pole since 1939 to reach a Grand Slam decider.
The 23-year-old will rise to a career-high second in the new WTA rankings to be released on Monday, which means Victoria Azarenka of Belarus will occupy the top position, while Russia’s Maria Sharapova, who was knocked out of the tournament in the fourth round, will drop to third.
