@ USA (unregistered) : You haven't been kind as for the sister Williams, as they both brought so many Grand Slam victories to US. They surely deserve a respect! Besides, they both seem to me very nice characters.

Many of the posts here reflect a racial attitude that we in the USA don't espouse. If an "American" wins...they are American. It's not 1969 anymore. We don't say they are Eastern European or Slavic, or especially that she is a "White American" or "Black American" athlete. He or she is just an "American" athlete. Or, maybe Russian-American in her respect. -------- Who are you kidding? Many Americans and particularly American government officials are the worst is the world for putting labels on people, especially fellow Americans. Folks like you started the whole thing about hyphenated Americans; African-American, etc.

To finish with this debate and put some ppl right on their places I should state; I have NEVER shied away to publicly express my admiration for John McR, Andre Agassi, Ivan lendel, P Beckman, Bjorn Bjork - of my generation so to say tennis Idols and no matter from what country they are coming from. In sports there should be no ethnical envy and jealousy… is what the true sportsman is about -- loses and sometimes wins, but always retains his/her dignity and ethical approach and respect for others. John McR was my idol because I have the same temper and style - when I know I am right I AM bloody rrriiight and NO referee can tell me otherwise.

Congratulations to Ms Sharapova.  I enjoyed seeing her light up when they played the Russian National Anthem.  Also, when she spoke in French.  We know she also speaks English and Russian.

It is too late to re-name and re-naming never counts anyway. Historical crimes committed by the English whites will not only be evaded, but will now be calculated with yearly interest.   T he necessity to execute each and every one of Englisch white or any Englischized CE (continental European) or any other people with genes from these two groups, be they active participators of that regime or status quo beneficiaries therefrom, will not only have the Englisch whites' historic sins avenged and retributed, but will also have rid this planet of an unbearable amount of unjustified hatred, hallucination, jealousy, selfishness, greed, obesity, acerbity, atrocity, unkindess, rigidity and indeed all other ugly natures. Any measures compromising the physical death of Englisch white or any Englischized CE (continental European) or any other people with genes from these two groups, will mean the Shava-like candidness, brightness, innocence, intellig ence and kindness cannot prevail, let alone fully.

1. Although Sharapova certainly has European genes, she is also definitely not purely white or purely European. And she is most definitely non-Englisch white (which fundamentally deprives her any right to name herself "American" irrespective of what that constitution says in “Englisch”. But this also makes Shava intrinsically invinsible from all the historical crimes committed by Englisch whites who now name themselves "America ns". (execution of native Americans, tranportation of Africans to America and enslavement of them thereafter, hatred towards Hispanics, Asians, Arabs and all other non-Englisch humans on this planet)

P ure white and pure Europeans are weak, extremely susceptible to disease, and characteristica lly associated with discontent, hatred, meanness, greed and selfishness. However, Sharapova is vigorous yet content, determined yet kind, sympathique and healthy, all characters which Europeans and more importantly Englisc h whites lack, or perform in such a reluctant, pathetic and mechanistically rig id manner that one is convinced their existence sacrifice the world's already limited goodness and is a complete waste of planet earth's resouces.

Some Americans are very envious of Russia and as to why Sharapova doesn't represent them instead of Russia, no matter how hard they try, they can never claim her as one of their own, she represents Russia, she's Russian now and ever, thank you for raising her but your loss is our Gain. :-)

I am really glad for the victory of Miss Maria Sharapova. She earned it on her own terms. She never gave up, she never stopped being a real fighter and took so many losses with dignity and humility as she is now taking her victory with warm Slavic grace and beauty.  I am really happy for a Slavic person to win such a prestigious tournament, whether she is from Poland, Belarus, Czech, Serbia, and/or Russia. This time Maria Sharapova represents herself first then Russia second. Zivala na mnogaja ljeta, divna Maria!

Not to burst too many bubbles but, Martina Navratilova became naturalised American and for the world she will always remain the great Check player on the court just as Ivan Lendon was. Besides there are plenty Russian players of the class of Sharapova. Truth is we, the eastern Europeans, are good in sports.
