The record was 943 in 1992. That's a tad higher than 500, as it turns out.
That means there were more in 2008 than 2012. So how was 2012 a "record"?

I think murder rates should be listed for a particular area only. Chicago may have a lower murder rate than Flint but if most of the murders occurred in a particular section of Chicago, that is the significant statistic. Certain neighborhoods need intense work to stop the violence.
These number rates are fixed to grab your only defense capabilty, when constitution becomes a joke.
