Witnesses reporting seeing increased security at the scene, including a row of police cars. City authorities advised local shop owners to close their businesses and lock their doors.
The incident began around 4:00 GMT.
A reporter from local news channel Fox11 wrote on Twitter that the skaters fled as soon as the riot police arrived: “They didn't even start pushing them yet.”
Earlier, a witness wrote on twitter that there was “a full blown riot with police in riot gear at Hollywood and Ivar.”
