New Jersey bans ‘ATHEIST’ vanity plate, calls it 'offensive'

28.08.2013 18:19

There is some danger in allowing the irreligious to express offensive views. The profane are now referring to the fourth day of the week as Hump Day, a clear effort to kick Wodin out of Wednesday. Others are denying the existence of Freia patroness of the day so revered by Americans, Friday, that they thank God for it. We must keep Thor in Thursday, by constitutional amendment if necessary!

Interesting, since today is Thor's Day! Hail Thor! from an Odinist.

We must work hard while also believing that if we follow all instructions given, we will go to heaven when we die.

If you allow non believer to flourish the spell might break and people may wake up to the facts, that others enjoy heaven on this earth while making the rules we follow.

I spend all day every day enjoying my time on this Planet, rather than worry about what comes next.

Yeah, hedonism surely is the way to go... not.

It is about FREE SPEECH and freedom to worship as you wish. That includes NOT worshipping anything or worshipping a cat if you so choose. You christains do not get to choose what is and is not a religion, so just button it. About the KKK, no you do not see anyone banning them, to the contrary in Ann Arbor MI they are forced to not only endure the annual rally put on by the KKK nut jobs and the city has to pay to protect them as well. People need to get over thinking that their 'christian jesus' is the only religion around. don't forget folks jesus is Jewish, so you christainity is not all that.

This wasn't an error, it was just plain prejudice.

I take it this is just an error by someone working for the NJMVC. There is no more reason to call the word "ATHEIST" offensive as the word "CHRISTIAN" ; or "MUSLIM" or "HINDU" for example.

It is to be hoped that a superior will allow the nameplate. Otherwise I suppose NJ State money will be spent defending the indefensible. The money lost will not be taken out of the pocket of the person refusing it. Should be, though.

This is frighteningly outrageous.

..murdoc.. 28.08.2013 19:12

That's why we have a first amendment!

@Seth: Ha!

I tend to not bother with groups like these, but as an agnostic who strongly believes in the separation of church and state I might have to start getting involved. It scares me how often political players are talking about god when NONE of us really know who and what god is thinking (if such a thing exists.)

Bu t, if we are going to mingle religion and politics, the least that the politicians can do is start ACTING more Christian. Even I know that Jesus would have supported Obamacare and not given a hoot about what license plate someone has.
