As far as the Taliban are concerned the more 'boots on the ground' the better. This simply offers them more targets and opportunities. The ancient tactics of weekening and eventually defeating a much more powerful adversary by 'slowly bleeding them' (of men, money, resources, and the will to fight) are well under way.
