Russian scholar Professor Ethan Burger has told RT that there is little that Russia can do to help the US in Afghanistan that is feasible politically.

I think the new American administration should take the oppourtunity to formally apologise for their badly thought-out actions against the soviets in Afghanistan, which resulted in many russians lives being lost. It is understandable that this source of indirect conflict will always taint any future co operation in the region unless the Americans at least express regret.
