Following the hype during and after Obamas election when he was made out to be 'the saviour of the world', the only way left was for him to go was down. It is therefore not surprising that some of his supporters are dissapointed. Fortunatly the US and UK have not started any new wars under Obama (Iran, Pakistan - and even Russia - were under the McCain / Palin cross hairs), so we have at least that to be thankful for. I really do think the world would be a very, very different place today if McCain had been elected, suffered a 'heart attack' or some other 'mishap' which then alowed Palin to came to power. Think about that for a minute or two. In my oppinion what Obama has done (and perhaps more so because of what he has not done), is to show the US and the world at large that the President does not pull all of the strings, indeed it appears at times that someone is actually pulling the Presidents strings. I hope that within the 3 years Obama has left he can at least put the breaks on the US war machine and make it more difficult for the administration that will replace him to spread war, destruction, suffering, and instability around the world in the name of 'freedom, democracy, security, and peace'.

Bob; I sympathise with you; like many US citizen and humans at large, you have dreamed for a savior for America. As we have done in France, the previous year, you end-up with a "nullity". The actual worldwide contex has eliminated from politic, all humans honnest, sincere and competent. All we have, are prostitutes, machiavelic comedians. In America, you had to find something "grandiose" an hollywoodian super-production to be a "smoke' screen" to cover-up the huge US financial fiasco. A woman president or some docile minority subject was considered perfect. You end-up having both for the price of one. Right from the beginning, when seeing who were the Obama cabinet's members, it was obvious than nothing will change. Just look at the 2010 defense-budget. Yesterday, thinking about an humoristic, french joke, I found the perfect surname for your president: N-PiPO. In french: Pipo: jokingly means: talking to say and do nothing (In that respect we have, with Sarkonaparte 1er, the World-champion). Think about it ! Sorry Future American and French Generations.. Sincerely. Jean-Claude Meslin

@ Meslin… It’s not dream… You can’t speak about something you know nothing about… We shall see where America is at the end of Obama’s first term… And I say first term because this man will be in office for the next 8 years… He is intelligent …no doubt… World leaders…..especially the ones who loved to hate America do not know how to deal with Obama… America’s enemies are stupid if they really think the economic crises has crippled her or even better… Having the largest economy in the world, with not even the European Union as a whole coming close does not just go away… For that reason is why the world just can not understand how American is able to finance wars…

Yes, people know about America because they make it their business to make every other country in their image. "Spreading Democracy". Many people lived in America more than 5 to 10 years and learned the real politics of America. Obama is intelligent? On the basis of his presidency, NO! It is the same way people mistake dogs for intelligence because they follow commands. Obama hasn't done anything different than a previous president. I challenge anyone to show the "Change". There is none. Calling people with differing opinions stupid with no basis to support your opinion is in itself what you claim others to be. And you obviously, in your short time here on Earth, did not learn the difference between criticism and hate. Nowhere in Meslin's comments does he display hatred for America. And you have assumptions he doesn't know anything about America? Financial institutions in America and Britain tend to give themselves AA financial security ratings. In America's case they show no promise to pay this back which means a very likely default on this huge debt. Debt is not wealth. You can acquire an American Express and buy all your hearts content. This does not equal your personal wealth and it something America will have to come to terms with. Does this put saliva on the corners of "America Haters" mouths? It shouldn't because no matter what, America is very big and if it were to collapse it would hurt many people. The best thing to hope for in real change would be grass roots change from the ground up in America. I suggest you move on from comments of defending a perceived honor of your nation. Something the US government should be more worried about as they continue wars and torture and illegal imprisonment. All of which isn't something to marvel at, but is criminal. That is why the world is baffled by the Nobel Peace Prize. I suggest you stop assumptions, chauvinism, and arrogance. Or is my criticism just hatred to you?

In '08 Candidate Obama made a number of promises which would become the cornerstone of his campaign. He was going to, "...end this war...", tax the wealthy, share the wealth, close Guantanamo Bay,bla,bla,bla... In '09 President Obama has broken every one of those promises. However after having voted for him last year and watched his and The Democratic Party's absolute refusal to lead ever since; he has "Accomplished" one thing: He has cured me of a 30yr. voting habit. Last year's SHALL be my LASTballot

To Nuta again: To live happy with good conscience you must have some humor ! A suiss newsman has called our over-excited president: Sarkonaparte 1er, because that "nullity" (I love that word) dreams to move to the Versailles-Palace with his "Pompadour". (I have also adopted that name). Since he received that capitalist distinction, I Call Obama: N-PiPO. In french funny talk pipo mean: talking to say nothing (bla bla bla) and do nothing. Soit: N=Nobel P: Peace: prononced Pi P= Price O= Obama. It is not a lack of respect, because as human, like you do, those two men (Obama, Sarkozy) leave me completely indifferent; but as presidents, they concern everyone of us; because of what the Future Generations will inherit. Ps: I, certainly know America better than you do...Sincerely. Jean-Claude Meslin

This time I agree, with the last comment. Why spend so much in Afghanistan when this nation is experiencing the worst economic hardship in years. Money is tight with banks, there is huge unemployment. With lowered house appraisals, revenue from taxes will be less for every municipality this year. Who are the American soldiers fighting for in Afghanistan, the continuation of the opium trade? If Russia, that has a better understanding of the region left the area, why will the US do better? America needs a shot of penicillin and not a bandage that only curtailed the bleeding.
