Never worry how the lobster gets in the pot, just keep it there; if it is in the pot, it limits its chances to get its claws on others in the open sea. Just feed it, and keep the pot in good order! To keep the pot in order may require us to look at the tally ban, as in the end accounts need to be brought in order. Lifting the ban and supporting the strength of both sides around the negotiating table, may indeed keep the pot in order and the account open for a considerable time, using intermediate tallies. And as they say, if they are spending in one store, they may find it difficult to spend in another.

Osama and his al-Qaida never had the ability to cause serious damage to the American military, but if they could induce the US to foolishly inject their military into the Middle East, there was a possibility of killing off the American forces by a "thousand cuts" over a long period of time. The entrapment American military in an endless war in Afghanistan has exceeded beyond the wildest dreams of Osama bin Laden. The mighty American military in Afghanistan is like a large bull elephant that has blindly stumbled into a large anthill. The elephant will kill thousands of ants as he trashes about in agony; however, if the elephant can not get out of the anthill in time, he will be eaten to the bone. President Bush squandered all opportunities for a "victory" in Afghanistan by launching his arrogant "shock and awe" invasion of Iraq. The question now for Pentagon generals is simple: how many more American troops have to be killed and horribly maimed before they will pull their troops out of Afghanistan with some dignity? Or, perhaps, these generals have the blind mentality of the bull elephant who has left his bones in the anthill.

An interesting news story for the Russian press to put forward, it appears from the defeatist slant that there are lingering feelings of inadequacy in the Russia (former USSR), fortunately in the US we understand the job needs to be completed whether it is popular or not.

When this commentator says "we understand the jobs needs to be done," as an American I have no idea who he means by we nor do I understand the job he refers to. Not the place to get into the merits or lack of them in our Afghanistan war, but let me say that more and more Americans believe that the course of action in Afghanistan and Iraq were the result of political actions that are not in keeping with American values and interests. All of you have understood nothing. America has become a military economy, young American boys and girls are enlisted right from High School. In France we start doing the same thing and showing on TV what a great experience, it is to make a military career (Two days in a row with saw what a great life have the Navy pilots on board the Charles De Gaulle aircrafts-carrier). We live in countries becoming completely insane; unable to export anything valuable which will bring money for retirement. Look at the mess, actually in France. And worse of all nobody want to face the facts. In America this and refusal of the facts is compounded ten times. So what to expect !!! The whole war started on lies; it will keep on going the same way until an other front is found (Iran or South-America). Psychologically we know than lier end-up being the only ones who believe their own lies. Since they are at the top of the US government; who can tell them the truth !!! Remember Jules Cesar principle: Governing idiots is a lot easier than governing well educated peoples. Idiots don't ask questions ! Sincerely... JCM

Meslin: "Governing idiots is a lot easier than governing well educated peoples. Idiots don't ask questions ! " The epitome of the white Christian Americans who cheered and cheered as Bush lied to them and drag the nation into the never ending bloody hell of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Taliban are not the enemies of the American people. The enemies are the war lusting generals and their pals in the death merchant industry who reap immense profits from these "wars of occupation".

Hey JJOHN, when do you leave for the War? Since it's such an American thing to do to go off and fight wars that nevern end. When do you leave ? If anyone thinks that 4 Commercial airliners were able to fly about the American skies for an hour and a half without one shot being fired your INSANE. The only way that could have happened is if Rummy, Chenney and George W let it happen. How did a rag tag group of terrorists bring down the Greatest Military in the World ? They didn't. Dick Chenney ordered them to stand down while he ran war games that put our military far away from the real danger. REALLY  2 Hijacked Commercial airliners were allowed to reach our most densley poplulated city NEW YORK and Washington D.C.without ONE shot being Fired. If anyone thinks thats possible you either working for the CIA or you hate American soldiers.

I think in 2012 the US will spend more than that on military. Proposed btugeds and estimated spending on military are usually a lot lower than they are in reality.Other programs like the Social Security branch of spending need restructuring in the next several years in order to stay within their bounds as well.
