A US court has refused to grant bail to ten people arrested on suspicion of spying for Russia.
See that meeting was too friendly over a Burger, so its plan B for the American public by the neocons - Quick spies everywhere! Cold War! Cold War! line up! line up! Check under your bed!
this is nothing but major provocation.
Ya ok ! they are claiming 10 alleged Russian secret agents arrest. But how about CIA-Mossad alleged secret agents world wide? about 2-3 months ago i read a report on some of the news links at my profile (www.myspace.com/jvc_horizon) that Mr. Barry has secretly deployed force in Central Asia as well. Wondering about recent riots in Kyrgyzstan?
I have no way of knowing the validity of these cases. However, this story looks very sloppy. For example, if those who were sent to the U.S to spy for Russia knew why they were sent to the U.S to "blend in" with U.S society and spy for Russia, why would the Russian intelligence authorities make electron fingerprint of the real identity and mission of these “secrete” agents? This makes very logical sense. Another interesting point is that the focus of these espionage cases are more about finding out the thinking of U.S policymaker than securing confidential scientific and technological innovations with military relevance. We can speculate the reasons why the FBI made this spectacular announcement soon after the famous burger and fries summit between Obama and Medvedev. I think it has something to do with Russia not going along the U.S impeding war against Iran and Russias’s exposing a recent false flag sinking of the South Korean ship.
This is more manufactured chaos just like the Xmas Nigerian terrorist and the Times Square terrorist. Another "threat down" to scare the ignorant masses into supporting even more billions for the military/industrial/security complex profiteers. And as usual, the mainstream media are working overtime to disperse disinformation and flat out lies to the public.
PR101 I think you are correct. The FBI knew about these guys for years? And just now announced "voila! we have Russian spies!" It does sound as if this is revenge for something, or maybe a negotiation ploy to more closely follow the parade against Iran. I wonder how many of those accused will later be released for insufficient evidence.
@ mbach Why Russian continues do do this is beyond you? Why? Do you not think there are CIA agents running arround Moscow or that the MI6 are not planting surveillance equipment in stones in Moscow parks. How about stealing the passports of friendly nations and using them in murder plots in a third nation as with the Mossed. My friend intelligence agents operate in all foreign countries both friend and foe. May I remind you of 23 CIA agents convicted in absentia by the Italian courts. The weapons due to be sold to Iran have only defencive capability as with the S300. The only countries that will want to object to that sell are these that may just be planning to invade them without taking heavy losses.
"The individuals have been charged with conspiring to act as unlawful agents, as opposed to spying" Go ahead and arrest the whole AIPAC organization, which is nothing but an unlawful agent of Israel that acts openly and very aggressively. The interesting thing is that last time when the real Israeli spy was arrested, the country for which he was spying was not officially revealed by the US. In this case "Russia" and "Russian Spies" are everywhere. The timing of revealing the "conspiracy" is very suspicious too. Looks like a neo-cons election campaign and attack on the current administration that achieved "too much" in normalizing relationships with Russia.
@mbach . You are clearly a bigoted person; who only hate others. You are so hypocritical that you can not see the destructrictive nature of your beloved u.s. No other country have killed so much people that is killed by u.s for last 10 years. They have bombed civilians by using drone and then called them terrorist. They used the event of 9/11 for implementing their evil plan of world domination. There r many proof that u.s was behind the 9/11 event but some people can not accept the truth; they say how can u.s kill its own citizens? Google "USS Liberty" and you will see an example how u.s behave with its own soldiers.

This story is hitting news in Australia on all mainstream media channels which occupies about 5 minutes of half hour news. Conveniently it is linked with Dimitri Medvedev having his lunch in a hamburger shop in America with Barak Obama, emphasizing the guilty party on his visit to America while his alleged secret agents on a mission reporting directly to Medvedev and playing an innocent game!?!?!?! Would Russia do this to Barak Obama or Cameron when they are on an official visit to Russia? The answer is NO.
Given that one guy is still on the run, it may be that something happened to compromise the surveillance operation and the authorities had to make arrests prematurely. It is interesting that they have only been charged with acting as agents of a foreign government and money laundering but not espionage. It may be that the US authorities do not believe that the group passed anything especially significant and wanted to curtail their activities before they did - thus reducing the potential impact on USA-Russia relations. The more serious charge is that of money laundering and is of a personal nature. Given that none of them are Russian citizens, Russia does not need to get involved.
The alleged spies were not to gather military intelligence( which would be a threat to American security). They weren't supposed to steal technical secrets(a threat to the American economy). What they seem to have been asked is to find out on any number of issues what the real position of the American government was. Hence making friends with people of 'influence' in America. But this is absolutely in the interests of every American. Politicians everywhere have a deserved reputation for saying one thing and doing another(Ask voters anywhere). How then are the Russian government to know what American politicians and those who wield power in the USA really think? And if they don't know what they really think (and what they will really do) miscalculations by the Russian government are inevitable. And who but a lunatic wants a new Cuban Missile crisis. What the FBI should have done was nothing. Beyond monitoring the activities to make sure that neither the security nor economy of the USA was damaged. Similarly when the Russian security service finds Russians doing the same thing for the government of the USA they should monitor the activities and leave it at that. For every one on planet earth it is vitally important that the two governments owning the largest stockpiles of nuclear weapons understand each others real intentions on almost every issue. The grandstanding by the FBI was a disservice to the interests of the people of the USA( and of course all other people).
MEJanssen You are correct. Already, one can sense these are weak cases and that after PR damage is done most of these people will released on lack of sufficient evidence.
Babeouf Everybody, and I do mean everybody who is familiar with how Washington works, knows that the United States government is not run to serve the interests of the American people. The United States people are among the worst off in the developed nations. They work so hard to achieve half the quality of life of Canadians, Germans and other people of the industrialized world. You wan be the worst dictator and still be able to hire high power lobbysts in Washington. The prime reason why the Ethiopia’s dictator Meles Zinawi is a fixture of G20 meetings is due to the power of lobby. Zinawi has been able to able to hire a former presidential candidate of the democratic party to lobby for him. Bill Clinton is now making billions by lobbying for foreign governments. He is allowed to do this despite having access to the all the secrets of the United States! We are not even going to how AIPAC shapes U.S foreign policy. Thus, in the face of this, it can be said that it is reasonable for the Russian government sent people to find out the real culture of Washington.
I think there could be broader implication of this spy story for millions of people of Russian heritage currently living in the United States. Muslims in the United States have living been inside a culture of suspicion of being Muslims in the United States. Russian scientist who run away from their country during hard times of the 1990s and their children may now now face now now dark period under the shadow of innuendos that that may be spying for Mother Russia!. At any case, this story will hurt Russia’s image in the U.S. in the near future.
The biggest spy operations are run by America, Russia, NATO and Israel. They know that they spy on one another - that is no news. What is important in the current situation is the American motivation for hyping up this incident at this time - right after Obama had stuffed a greasy burger into Medvedev's face. I believe the greasy burger affair, followed rapidly by this spy affair is part of the American psychological warfare against Russia. Obama made Medvedev appear as a little puppy when he instructed Medvedev to order this or that at the burger stand. This spy affair is just another quick kick into Medvedev's pants by Obama. Obama and his pals are making Russia appear weak and foolish starting with pressuring Russia into supporting the UN sanction against Iran, and then, demanding that Russia break their contract to sell Iran the S-300 defensive system. Russia bowed down to both demands. Then came the burger slap in the face, and now the spy affair. What's next in line to embarrass Russia? American people are giddy with excitement over the way Obama is pushing Russia around. Russian leaders themselves are to blame, because once they gave in to American pressure and demands, they set the stage to be constantly slapped around in the international game of psychological warfare.

Having had a read of the complaint filings (BBC news website has links), it seems highly unlikely that any of these folk will be released for a couple of decades. The complaints indicate that the FBI have a good variety of evidence, including forged identity documents, lots of audio and video surveillance, copies of hard disks, contents of safety deposit boxes, etc. Interestingly, the FBI has so far chosen not to identify any of the Russian officials featuring in their surveillance videos.
This bit of information was published in 2009, in this very website. Russian media talking heads and its current President and the Russian business classes are so eager to make business deals that they have forgotten the U.S sees Russia an obstacle to U.S geopolitical interests. Only few days ago, two Russian media talking heads in new Radio Program called Red Line [see Voice of Russia] were at pains spinning Obama’s U.S foreign policy which affirms the GWB full spectrum dominance as somehow does not say what it says plainly and clearly!. Russians are very intelligent people but their current policy of asymmetry reset with the U.S makes Russia look weaker than it really is. http://english.ruvr.ru/radio_broadcast/9255436/10685529/ http://rt.com/Politics/2009-09-16/russia-gives-spies-headache.html

I have no doubt of it, and that they are all working with the alternative media and conspiracy theorists. But why Russia continues to do this, is beyond me. It's only hurting itself. The weapons that it is selling to Iran and other third-world Islamic nations are not worth ruining it's international relations over. In the end, countries like Iran will only take whatever they can from Russia and then stab it in the back. Good ties with the US , Europe, Canada, Japan and India are worth a lot more than that.
