The pillars of American democracy are about to fall, as more and more voters turn to independent parties in America, as many voters say they cannot tell the two dominant parties apart anymore.

George Washington the first president of the United States in 1780 warned of the two party system, in traditional terms, Republicans have been the party of Wall St. and Corporate business and the Democrats the party of middle-class working Americans. 229 years later and this is not the case any longer the boundary between the parties has gone from crystal clarity to grey to a soft blurr. The major mistake occurred at the end of the American Civil War 1865, where the US Congress passed a law that allowed a corporation to petition the US Congress just like an ordinary US citizen, in effect, creating a virtual person. Since that time, corrupted officials and what is known as soft money from corporate lobbyist have flowed in. There is a revolving door between Washington DC, and Wall St., it is all about money and keeping power with the elites...plain and simple. Both of these parties are corrupt. After Goerge Bush stole the election in 2000, and the 8 years of hell that followed including bankruptcy of the country, and the hype of change from Obama...which by the way is really no change, and has adopted many of the policies of George Bush I am very happy to be called INDEPENDENT. Change there will never be change. Do you know that the United States is the only industrial power without universal health care. Do you know that a University education in the United States is out of reach for most Americans, since they can't afford it. Do you understand that the cost of living compared to the rest of world is one of the highest on the planet. Do you know that working class Americans work a full-time job and another part-time job just to live. Do you know we have the higest rates of alcoholism, drug-addicition, and suicide in the world. Do you know I work the first four months of every year, just to pay US Federal Taxes, and Corporate America gets tax breaks. Do you understand this is "The Corporate States of America"....not "The United States of America".

Thomas - A very nice piece, I really wish you well on your mission, to restore the USA. Change has to come from the American people themselves, through people like you, it can happen, it can be change people can believe in. It is saddening to see the US today, truly saddening. The whole world, knows the real story is as you portray it. Outside people only ask one thing, for you to be America, they want the things said in private, to be the things that people will say in public. That the will of the people is ignored and the "The Corporate States of America"....not "The United States of America" as you so well put it exists today. The two party system is the enemy of true democracy, be it in the US or UK. It is divisive, and creates the will of the minority, rather than the will of the people. the 'the' meaning the people as a whole. Meaning not 30% or 25% enacting laws, but at least a bare majority. As I said good luck Thomas, to you and other like minded folks. We need a true America in this world, not a counterfeit fake.

You`re right Count Cash - one party system like in Russia is much more friendlier to democracy :).

Yes always nice to see, when the government represents the will of the people, rather than a third of the people, or worse a few bankers. You know -will of the people - democracy! An alien concept in Europe and the US. What is that election turn out in Europe?

The CIA is the largest terrorist organization in the world, the best funded, the most secretive. USA continue to torture people. People caught in most undemocratic ways without right to habeas corpus. These things are signs of dictatorships. USA is essentially a one party state with two flavors. The people of USA cannot vote away torture or CIA or the military spending wich is a monetary black hole. Is it "freedom" you enjoy knowing that your tax paid goes to kill civilians in afghanistan and to torture other people? The land of the free is really the land of the captive.
