Race in the United States is a very complex issue. Some of the opinions in this article sound like classic cold war rhetoric. President Obama was elected by an American People desperate for change. America is not a monolith. The America of the Northeast, coastal west and Great Lakes has little in common culturally with the southern parts of the country. The civil war really cannot be segregated out of the Southern American tradition. Rapacious capitalism and good old fashioned American racism have been mixed into a potent and scary cocktail which threatens our country. Most white Americans are pragmatic. That allowed the election of our current President. Barak Obama's election has brought this garbage to the surface. Time will tell if we can remove this cancer from the American Psyche.
