The people tried in Italy were serving their country. Americans should stand up for fellow citizens who put themselves in harms way to carry out jobs their government asks them to do. This includes both military and civilian workers. They perform jobs that most people would not be capable of doing and so dangerous that most politicians would be scared to attempt to do. Examples would be, working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier or serving in a submarine, etc.

These brave American citizens did the job their government asked of them. America owes these citizens very much because they personally sacrifice to serve their country. No amount of money can adequately reward the service of America's brave young military and civilian people doing the missions. Give them the credit due. If anyone has a complaint send it to the elected office holders.
