US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has arrived in Kazan, the capital of Russia’s Tatarstan republic, where she met with the republic’s president Mintimer Shaimiev.
It is quite a change for Clinton to visit the parts of the world she never before cared about. Now that US is really deeply mired in conflicts that took hundreds of thousands of Muslim lives, it is looking for a different paradigm for life together on the same Earth. But before she can tackle the problem of changing US relationships, she has a difficult transformation to undergo herself. During the primary elections cycle in Pennsylvania, in a discussion with religious leaders she revealed that her favorite religious role model is Esther, her devotion and sacrifice. Many have subsequently wondered about that personal revelation, and whether, in itself, it was merely political. However, in a less spiritually inspired Pennsylvania moment, Clinton bluntly said that she would "obliterate" Iran, should Iran harm Israel. On the other hand, everybody remembers her stridency on Kosovo, when during Clinton's watch hundreds of thousands Christian Serbs were forced out of Kosovo by Albanian terrorists, while NATO troops watched on. And how swiftly the terrorists were reinvented and became freedom fighters. It clearly is not about Esther, or about Muslims or Christians. It is about the expediency of empire. This is why the powerful impression of Kazan will not be long lasting. Because in order to internalize the spirit of Kazan, one would have to change from the inside, not only use the image to craft yet another US public relations campaign. Yet, every journey starts with the first step. And one never knows where will it lead.
Should Russia now be expecting trouble in Tatarstan? Wherever the Clintons arrive, trouble follows.
Great, she is corrupting the minds of our youth.
A very slick move.
