In these rapidly changing times, technology is playing a key role in democratizing the most important function in our society: the dissemination of information.
Well done Luke. I agree with most of what you said. I just disagree with the statement that there are no longer any gatekeepers due to technology/internet as the Amy Goodman's,Arianna Huffington's ,Howard Zinn's and the Noam Chomsky's will always be there to try and gatekeep events such as the truth of 9/11, but with our keen awareness in the pursuit of the truth,we can easily tell the difference and just avoid these gatekeepers the best we can. If I am wrong please do tell me so.
Great article Luke! Clear, concise & to the point! Bravo! Adam MNChange.org WeAreChange.org BE the change you wish to see in the world!
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=192820947210 see a video of Luke confronting tremendous oppressive force similar to the tank guy in China in 1989 at this site. and help get the word out of action we are taking on behalf of liberty loving people and against all forms of government oppression and intervention in private lives, also at that same page!
Excellent article, Luke! I believe we are now at a point in time that we could take muckraking to a whole new level. What we need is a news segment which inserts the truth and ignored issues into the popular news media. Or, a little more difficult to achieve, our own news show. I think we are close. Just look at the viewers for Jesse Ventura's Conspiracy Theory. The opportunity looms and we are at the threshold of more avenues to get the truth out there. We do have a few outlets such as Republic Broadcasting Network (RBN), American Free Press, The Alex Jones Show, Freedom 21 TV, Russia Times and even Fox gets a bit more truth than other MSM. Imagine if we injected this into main stream media even by segments!

The quote "The mainstream media occasionally misses big stories that rock society – either by negligence or on purpose.........", is in my experience more on purpose than by negligence. As most astute and informed people will know, the mainstream media is indeed 'controlled' by persons, and / or groups, who have an interest in what type of 'news' the masses get to hear. It doesn't matter that a few enlightened people know where to find the real story, it is the popular public oppinion of the masses that counts. This biased, adgenda based disemination of information we often refer to as 'news' has become much more obvious to previously less astute individuals following the Iraq war and following a recent opperation against a certain coastal enclave in the middle east (where unbiased reporting was actively discouraged / highly restricted / controlled). Now, especially in the UK and US, as we build up to a possible blockade (sorry 'harsh sanctions' in UN speak) of Iran, or even a military strike, we see stories in the media that seek to either vilify Iran, exagerate its Civil nuclear programe, distort the facts, and deliberatly miss-quote statements. Indeed there is very strong evidence that there is a concerted attempt to demonise Muslims - after all Muslims are the cause of all the worlds ills - aren't they? Once a group of people have been de-humanised it is much easier to visit cruelty upon them - there are many examples in history. Also, once a group have been de-humanised it is much easier to invade their lands, slaughter them en-mass, and take their natural resources - again many examples in history. By doing this to Muslims today it 'justifies' the occupation of Iraq, the continuing opperation in Afghanistan, the destabalising of Pakistan, and of course - the real prize - it nicely prepares 'public oppinion' for a strike against Iran.
