This it a mar on the basis of what our country and president have claimed to up hold. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Who do these law makers think they are! This is MY body! NO one should be controlling what I put in MY body. This is against the pursuit of happiness. Is that not in the Constitution? Do we have the freedom of religion but no right to grow, store, and eat our own food. Our bodies are our temples., is that not spiritual or religious. The laws have no place here. Are the CEO's so poor that they have to corner the natural market. For thousands of years humans have been tilling the land and feeding them selves. We are in desperate times and without self provision people will starve. Only horrid and vile government's have dictated the peoples right to feed themselves. I am 30 yrs old with late onset Type One Diabetes. In my condition I am better off eating from my own organic garden. I voted for Obama and I truly feel like the corporations are trying to kill us. I cry murder!

Someone voted down this article 70 times? This news piece has Vital information about Monsanto yet someone is too busy being egotistical and ignorant by only taking offense at the world FAT. This news article needs to reach more people so they understand the power behind Monsanto and the harm they do.

@Moriah, you are definitely better off eating from your own garden. Here in Russia we have our Dacha's and most people grow enough crops for the year and a lot of seasonal fruits and vegetables. It is amazing how wonderful the body feels after changing diets from prepackaged food made from the chemical industry to having natural food. I suggeset also to make your own bread and if you don't have time to get a bread maker too.

"The bill further bans individuals from removing, cleaning and storing seeds, which would essentially end private and local farms." Well, that's just not true. The bill says nothing of seeds and in no way can be interpreted to mean this.. In fact, the bill explicitly protects small and organic farms. A number of small, organic farms and CSAs have come out in support of the bill. These include Polyface Farms (Joel Salatin? Food Inc.?). Sure, some don't, but these are the uninformed and misinformed. When people like Survive and Thrive boldly lie about S. 510 like they do here regarding seed-saving, you're going to get some opposition. It's important to realize that it is based on deceptive reporting via the Internet. Here's a summary of how it will effect small and organic businesses: http://thehill.com/images/stories/blogs/smallfarms.pdf Here' the actual bill: http://help.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/WHI10337.pdf

We can see the moral lessons of this story for the U.S but what are the moral lessons to be learnedby Russia? If I am not mistaken, so far, Russia has resisted the Frankenstein GMO food and seeds penetrating into the Russian food supply and production of food. But this is not enough. Russia needs to do more to safeguard the food supply of the Russian citizens. Russia must also enact laws that enhance and protect arable lands and soil and also protect small farmers. Biotech corporations such as Monsanto will not be happy to dominate the U.S food supply. These corporations have global agenda and global ambition. The recent wild fires and the sudden fall of Russia's production of wheat and other essential grain production means that, if Russia is not careful, it will be forced to feed its citizens with GMO monster foods. http://www.foodnavigator-usa.com/Financial-Industry/Monsanto-invests-in-collaboration-with-Australian-wheat-breeders/?c=l0npCdNcj%2FY7LDLp2aO3zA%3D%3D&utm_source=newsletter_daily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Newsletter%2BDaily

This piece is a bit over the top. Your story has Obama appointing SCJ Clarence Thomas to a high poistion in the government. NOT TRUE! Also, just because Elena Kagan ruled in a case involving Monsanto does not make her working for Monsanto. I don't have time to look at the other people in this story but if you are to be believable ( and have me come back to your site) your must do your home work. Jee, you don't have to lie; there is enough true out there to do your store.

I have read the legislation referred to in this article; you can read it yourself here: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s111-510. It makes no mention whatsoever of any restriction on seed collection. Read it and use your browser's search function to search for the word "seed" and you'll find nothing. In the U.S. we are supposed to have "journalistic ethics." That means, among other things, that reporters are supposed to check their facts before publishing an article.

This entire story makes little sense. Both the GMO and high fructose corn syrup arguments are valid, but it almost seems as if the person putting the story together doesn't know the difference between them. Furthermore, how on earth does Obama get blame for Clarence Thomas and Margaret Miller? It's almost as if the person putting together this story had the right information given to them by someone else, but had no idea how to put it together logically because he or she has no personal understanding of the topic.

The bit that most are missing in this bill is the actual distribution mechanism Monsanto and others seek to impose. GM foods, whatever the type, have something in common. They're effectively sterile, which means the farmer has to buy new seed each time he plants a crop. Guess who supplies it to him. So any move to directly, or by implication, limit the opportunity to grow own's food, points clearly and directly to the agri-corporates, and their proxies in the political system seeking to monopolise the food distribution system. This is a dangerous path to take, and i agree with the blogger who wrote Monsanto won't stop with just the US. Europe has been under massive pressure for many years to allow GM foods into agri-business, with the intent of monopolising seed supply, and the subsequent hike in prices as a result. Don't be fooled by this bill. It's another step in the agri-corporate intent to make growing your own food illegal, or only permissible with "approved" seed supply. US citizens should be marching in their millions to stop this bill, or they'll wake up one day to find themselves completely at the mercy of a distribution monopoly, as has been in the case in their other industries over many years. Europe might seem quaint, somewhat socialist/welfare oriented, and obstructionist, but time and again they've turned back the corporate wave, and protected the citizens from falling into slavery, and the feudal system dressed up as US style capitalism. I strongly urge the Russian government to wield a responsible axe on behalf of its citizens, and kill off immediately any attempt to introduce GM food, or any corporate driven derivative of that in the country, no matter how slick or deceitful the propaganda/marketing. Stop any of the monopolistic intent coming from abroad dressed up as "trade deals", and keep the precious right of citizens to grow their own food, from natural seed stock. It's a right that should not be given up for any reason.

One can start a research by googling "who invented Aspartame".
HOPEFULLY Russia does NOT use it on their farms and in their animal feed. Do the research Russia........ please.  Their farm land will be destroyed for generations.
Pilots [u.s. navy and u.s. air force etc] warned their pilots to not use Aspartame. google pilot magazines give warning to pilots about Aspartame and seizures and blindness. [u.s. air force does not drink zero coke]
You can google that also.and check this out   http://wn.com/Monsanto[14 videos in above LINK]
